Who We’re Looking For

The success of Branching Tree depends on strong alignment between three participating families and our shared vision. Multiple families willing to move forward quickly could open the possibility of starting with a larger property. We are currently seeking a family/families who meet the following general profile:

  • Has an adult male between the ages of 22–35 with a diagnosed I/DD (Intellectual/Developmental Disability)

  • Male is qualified as Priority 1 or 2 to receive Massachusetts DDS funding

  • Family understands and embraces the values and philosophy of Branching Tree (see attached brochure)

  • Family is willing to actively engage and commit to building a connected, inclusive community

  • Family is open to a range of home locations across Massachusetts, with a focus on the Southeast region

  • Family is willing and able to contribute financially toward launching this innovative model

Overview
Branching Tree is a small, inclusive housing model grounded in belonging, shared purpose, and self-determination. It reimagines Shared Living by combining its strengths with a community-integrated approach that prioritizes autonomy, natural supports, and authentic inclusion. This is not a facility, it’s a true home where people with and without disabilities live, grow, and support one another in everyday life.

Branching Tree’s hybrid model blends the best of Shared Living and integrated housing to better meet the diverse needs of adults with IDD. Its emphasis on dignity, choice, and community inclusion, and aligns with best practices to reflect DDS’s mission to support individuals in truly community-based settings.

Details

Though intentionally small in scale, Branching Tree aims for broad impact by fostering meaningful connections to the wider community through inclusive work, recreation, and social opportunities tailored to each person’s strengths and interests. A provider agency will oversee daily operations in both the home and a small, community-based day program focused on skill-building and full community engagement.

Inclusive Living Through Natural Supports

Three young adult men with IDD will share a home with live-in caregivers intentionally chosen for their commitment to relationship-based, inclusive living. These caregivers are not shift staff, but co-residents who share daily life, creating a stable, mutual support system within a home, not a program.

Person-Centered, Community-Based Inclusion

Supports are individualized to promote autonomy, dignity, and full participation in work, volunteering, recreation, and social life. This person-centered approach reflects DDS priorities and ensures each resident’s goals, interests, and voice remain central.
